Bio Statement

Behavioral Mechanisms Explaining Disparities Lab

Dr. Christopher Fagundes is a tenure track assistant professor in the Department of Health Disparities.  Dr. Fagundes' program of research aims to understand the biobehavioral mechanisms underlying cancer health disparities. Working in the areas of autonomic psychophysiology and psychoneuroimmunology,  Dr. Fagundes investigates how stress induced changes in the autonomic, neuroendocrine, and immune systems contribute to cancer health disparities among those who experienced adversities as children, come from low socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds, or experience racial discrimination. Dr. Fagundes has 21 peer reviewed publications, 4 invited articles, and 3 additional peer reviewed publications under review. This includes first authored work published in JAMA Psychiatry, Psychoneuroendocrinology, Brain Behavior, and Immunity, Health Psychology, and the European Journal of Cancer. These are the top journals in psychoneuroimmunology and psychology. He received his Ph.D. in 2010.  He is the director of the Biobehavioral Mechanisms Explaining Disparities Lab (B-MED) .
