Daniel C. Hughes, Ph.D., M.Ed., B.A.

Present Title & Affiliation

Primary Appointment

Instructor, Department of Behavioral Science, Division of OVP, Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX

Research Interests

Daniel C. Hughes, Ph.D., is certified as a Ph.D. Kinesiologist with an American College of Sports Medicine Clinical Exercise Specialist® certification. Dr. Hughes recently completed a NIH R25 cancer prevention fellowship in the Department of Behavioral Science, and during that time, he led the implementation of the exercise testing and monitoring laboratories in the Behavioral Research and Treatment Center while working as a co-investigator on behavioral interventions for endometrial and breast cancer survivors. Dr. Hughes research interests are in implementing culturally competent behavioral interventions to improve physical activity behaviors in minority populations. He is currently the Principal Investigator for a recently awarded National Cancer Institute Career Development Grant (K01) “Determinants of Exercise Adherence for Hispanic Cancer Survivors”. This study will pilot test a culturally tailored exercise intervention specific for Hispanic female cancer survivors, the results of which will inform the development of culturally appropriate health behavior interventions specific to ethnically diverse populations.
