Bio Statement

Dr. Morice is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he also serves as the Chief of the Section of Interventional Pulmonology, Deputy Chair of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, and Director of Clinical Programs in Pulmonary Medicine.

Dr. Morice graduated from the University of Costa Rica School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans and his subspecialty training in Pulmonary Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

He built the basic clinical infrastructure that is in place today at MD Anderson: inpatient and outpatient consultative services, state of the art procedural services in bronchoscopy and pleural diseases, pulmonary function laboratory, critical care medicine program, and established collaborations with UT medical school to bring into MDACC teaching and fellowship programs in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He also created the Interventional Pulmonology program at MD Anderson and a GME approved fellowship that to-date has graduated 13 trainees in this subspecialty.

Dr. Morice  remains clinically active in day to day patient care of all aspects of pulmonary medicine with special emphasis in the area of Interventional Pulmonology. He is also a valuable resource as a mentor and educator, for which he was recently recognized by becoming the recipient of the 2013 MDA Teacher of the Year Award from the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program.

Administratively, he oversees activities with the directors of various departmental clinical programs and with the Cardiopulmonary Center Medical Director. He coordinates clinical resource allocations, space utilization, clinical faculty development, and strategic planning. He shares a leadership role with the Department's Chair and Administrator to evaluate and develop opportunities for clinical revenue enhancement, oversee the development of business plans for new clinical programs, and the implementation of approved programs. At the Division of Internal Medicine level, he serves as the Division's liaison with MD Anderson's Regional Care Centers and as a member of the institution's Clinical National Expansion Committee helping facilitate access to consultative services and exploring the expansion of internal medicine programs outside the main campus. He also contributes to various institutional committees such as  Chair of the Sedation and Procedures Committee and  as a member-at-large of the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff.

Dr. Morice is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and member of the World Association for Bronchology and the American Thoracic Society. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the ACCP in recognition for his work with the ACCP Community Service Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean organizing educational programs and interventional workshops. He is now the Chair of this ACCP committee.

His research collaborations support various clinical and basic programs within our institution, particularly the lung cancer program. Dr. Morice's major focus of clinical research is in the area of interventional pulmonology, lung cancer chemoprevention and early detection, and physiological assessment of patients at high risk for lung resection.
