About Dr. Black
Dalliah M. Black, MD, FACS is an Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She earned her medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill where she also completed her residency in General Surgery. Her fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology was completed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
D r. Black’s clinical interests include evaluating barriers to medical care in the underserved, disparities in breast cancer outcomes, and biologic differences in breast cancers. Her surgical research, including evaluating the natural history of small HER2 breast cancers, determining the validity of the use of pre-operative MRI in detecting breast cancer versus the use of sentinel lymph node biopsy in high risk patients undergoing prophylactic mastectomy, and evaluating the accuracy of intra-operative technetium injection for sentinel lymph node identification has resulted in national presentations, including the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American College of Surgeons, and publications in the Annals of Surgical Oncology, Archives of Surgery, and Surgery.
Dr. Black has a strong interest in patient education and the patient-physician relationship. She has received several awards for her community efforts. She has also served on the board of directors for the breast cancer support group, The Red Devils, as a medical advisor for Sisters Network, and served on the state of Maryland Breast Cancer Control Commission to improve access and treatment. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and Society of Surgical Oncology.
