About Dr. Nelson
Dr. Nelson has been a member of the MD Anderson faculty since 2009. After graduating with honors from the University of California, San Diego, he attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and then trained at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center in Internal Medicine and subsequently Medical Oncology and Hematology. He served for 20 years in the United States military. As an oncologist and hematologist in the Air Force, he was primarily involved in caring for patients, teaching medical residents and conducting clinical research trials, but is also a veteran of overseas deployments. After coming to MD Anderson, in 2010 he founded the Medical Oncology service for MD Anderson in The Woodlands, and has previously served as Center Medical Director. Dr. Nelson is board certified in both medical oncology and hematology and cares for patients with solid organ cancers as well as benign and malignant blood disorders. He believes strongly in the unique multidisciplinary approach toward cancer care that distinguishes MD Anderson, and is committed to the highest level of outstanding care for his patients. Dr. Nelson lives in Magnolia, and in his free time enjoys family time, running and tennis.
