Bio Statement

Dr. Arlene M. Correa was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  She obtained her Master's degree in Mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico and her Ph.D. in Biometry with a minor in Epidemiology and Behavioral Sciences from The University of Texas - Houston Health Science Center, School of Public Health.  Dr. Correa joined  the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, in July 2000 as a Statistical Analyst and quickly excelled to the level of Instructor in August 2001.  Her expertise, drive and compassion let her ease through the ranks to Assistant Professor in September 2004 and Associate Professor in September 2011.

Dr. Correa has been instrumental in the development, migration, and expansion of the department's clinical database.  She has also developed many sub-set databases and assists the faculty and fellows with research projects.  Her research interests are esophageal and lung cancer, and survival analysis.
