      Cristina M Checka, MD

      About Dr. Cristina M Checka

      Dr. Checka studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dartmouth College before earning her medical degree at Michigan State University. She completed her general surgery residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia followed by a breast surgical oncology fellowship at New York University. She served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at New York University, where she co-founded a novel Women's Health Selective rotation for fourth year medical students, and led small group seminars for third year surgery clerkship students. At MD Anderson, she created a novel breast surgery elective for fourth-year UTMB medical students and is co-developing a novel educational app for new breast surgery. She has been recognized as Faculty Educator of the Year and was recently appointed Medical Director of PA Education. Nationally, she serves as Chair of the Advisory Committee for Young Women with Breast Cancer with the CDC. She serves as Innovation Officer for the Department of Breast Surgical Oncology and is a co-inventor of three apps and several novel surgical devices currently under development.
