About Dr. Jessica P. Hwang
Jessica P. Hwang, MD, MPH, DipABLM
I am a Professor in the Department of General Internal Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. My clinical and research work has focused on hepatitis B screening to prevent reactivation and serious liver-related adverse events due to systemic anticancer therapy. I have served as principal investigator on NIH and CPRIT grants aimed to prevent liver disease among patients with or at risk for cancer, and I have worked on teams to coauthor national guidelines on hepatitis B from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and American Society of Clinical. After taking a sabbatical in 2023-2024 where I became board certified in Lifestyle Medicine and initiated training in health coaching and mindfulness-based stress reduction, my work shifted towards the management of metabolic syndrome and metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease among patients with cancer. It’s a great privilege for me to work with patients with cancer to co-create their personalized lifestyle and medical management plan to help them achieve healthy goals that are meaningful to them.
