Bio Statement

Dr. Kathleen Schmeler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology.  She provides surgical and medical care to women with gynecologic malignancies.  In addition, she performs specialized procedures in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery, for appropriate patients with cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancer.

Dr. Schmeler’s primary research interests include pre-invasive cervical disease, cervical cancer, and hereditary cancer syndromes including Lynch Syndrome/Hereditary Non-Polyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) and Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome (HBOC/BRCA).  She is the Principal Investigator for several research protocols in these areas.  Dr. Schmeler has authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on these and other subjects.  In addition, she has been invited to write book chapters and review articles on a variety of topics in gynecologic oncology.  Dr. Schmeler is an active speaker, both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Schmeler is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncologists and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists.  In addition, she serves as a Reviewer for several journals including Gynecologic Oncology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery, The International Journal of Gynecologic Cancer, and Annals of Surgical Oncology and British Journal of Cancer.
