      Lois M. Ramondetta, M.D.

Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine, Division of Surgery

      About Dr. Ramondetta

Dr. Lois Ramondetta is a full Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine where she provides surgical and chemotherapy directed patient care as well as resident and fellow training for all types of gynecologic cancers. Dr. Ramondetta also specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries. Dr. Ramondetta has a joint appointment in the Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation, & Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Ramondetta has co-authored over 170 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Her research interests include cancer prevention, HPV vaccination, yoga therapy, clinical trials, supportive care, and the effect of psychological coping style and stress on cancer and quality of life. In 2008, she co-wrote " THE LIGHT WITHIN " with Deborah Sills, PhD published by William Morrow that explores the sanctity of the doctor patient relationship. To better care for patients, she became boarded in Hospice and Palliative Care in 2010 and a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine in 2020. Uniting these interests, she initiated clinical trials targeting the adrenergic pathway, yoga and stress responses in gynecologic cancer patients. Importantly, she incorporates stress reduction/lifestyle wellness techniques into her patient’s lives. In 2019 she became a 500hr RYS certified Yoga Teacher and in 2020 completed training as a Yoga Therapist. She is using these skills not only to teach mind-body techniques to reduce stress and improve physical well being to patients and employees, but she is also the principle investigator of a clinical trial incorporating yoga based lifestyle coaching into the preparation for oncologic surgeries in the setting of ovarian cancer. Recently she co-authored a chapter on integrative oncology in gynecologic cancers for the book Comprehensive Integrative Oncology.
