Bio Statement

Thein H Oo received his medical degree from the Institute of Medicine II, Rangoon, Burma. He completed internal medicine training at hospitals recognized by the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom and at Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. He underwent Clinical Oncology training at Christie Hospital, Manchester, UK, and Hematology-Medical Oncology Clinical and Research Fellowship at St Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, USA. During his fellowship training, he received extensive training in clinical hematology and oncology, apheresis medicine, some aspects of laboratory hematology and transfusion medicine. In his final year of fellowship training, he trained as a research fellow in the world renowned St Elizabeth's Medical Center's Red Blood Cell Membrane Research Laboratory and also served as an administrative Chief Fellow.

After completing fellowship training, he joined the faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston. He was recruited to be one of the founding members of the Section of Thrombosis & Benign Hematology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in July 2010. His interests include supportive care in cancer, hemostasis and thrombosis, bone marrow failure syndromes, consultative hematology and the graduate medical education. He participates in local, national and international educational and hematology practice activities. He has published over seventy manuscripts, book chapters and abstracts. He previously served as a committee memeber on the Test Material Development Committee and Committee on Practice, both of American Society of Hematology. He currently serves on the editorial review board of four journals and on the Membership and Communications Committee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
