About Dr. Christopher Young
Christopher Young, MD PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery and the Director of Endovascular Surgical Neuro-Oncology, who specializes in conditions affecting blood vessels in the brain and spine. These include management of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations and subdural hematomas, as well as emerging cerebrovascular techniques for the treatment of brain and spinal tumors.
Dr. Young received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town. He obtained a PhD at the University of Oxford where he was a Rhodes Scholar and worked on molecular regulation of neural stem cells after ischemic stroke. He completed neurosurgery residency at the University of Washington and postgraduate fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. A dual-trained cerebrovascular neurosurgeon, he offers both open surgical approaches and minimally invasive endovascular techniques to treat a variety of central nervous system disorders, with emphasis on treatments tailored to the needs of patients with cancer.
As a surgeon-scientist, Dr. Young is interested in novel endovascular indications for treatment of CNS disorders. His lab focuses on the molecular interface between the vasculature and the brain, as well as application of this knowledge for cerebrovascular diseases and neuro-oncology.
