About Dr. Gohar S. Manzar
Dr. Manzar is an Assistant Professor and Physician-Scientist in the Pediatric Radiation Oncology section at MD Anderson. She is passionate about treating patients with childhood cancer and herself discovered radiation oncology when she was seventeen. Following college, she earned a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and then studied medicine at the Mayo Clinic, followed by residencies at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she learned lifelong lessons and experienced the value of patient-centered, coordinated care of people with cancer.
The MD Anderson Pediatric Radiation Oncology section represents decades of expertise by five radiation oncology doctors, and a specialized team of pediatric radiotherapy advance-practice providers, nurses, physicists, therapists, and dosimetrists. We offer every type of radiotherapy technology including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and proton therapy. Dr. Manzar treats all types of pediatric cancers, and she works closely with colleagues from other related specialties to derive selected and personalized treatment plans for each individual patient.
Dr. Manzar is a translational physician-scientist with a research background in cellular therapy, regenerative medicine, immunology, and oncology. Her research ambitions are guided by clinical and personal experience. She holds a patent for improved skin-cell derived human induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell-derived pancreatic beta cells as a cure for Type 1 diabetes. Her clinical research has investigated outcomes with proton therapy in head-and-neck cancer, as well as bridging radiation therapy with CAR-T cell therapy. As a resident physician, she was fortunate to have earned funding from ASTRO, ASCO, and RSNA to render cutting edge preclinical research to identify the potential synergy of radiation therapy and CAR-NK cell therapy against solid tumors while mentored by Dr. Daher and Dr. Rezvani, with whom her laboratory now partners. She also has an interest in medical education, music therapy, and narrative medicine.
