About Dr. Mohan
Dr. Radhe Mohan, Ph.D., FAAPM, FASTRO, is a tenured Professor and the holder of the Larry and Pat McNeil Chair in the Department of Radiation Physics at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University, Durham, NC and completed his post-doctoral training at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. Dr. Mohan started his medical physics career in 1971 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York where he rose to Professor and Associate Chairman of the Department of Medical Physics. He left MSKCC in 1996 to become the Director of Radiation Physics at Medical College of Virginia. He joined MD Anderson as Chairman of the Department of Radiation Physics in January 2002, stepping down in October 2010 to focus on proton therapy research and clinical activities.
Dr. Mohan’s extensive experience includes pioneering contributions in many areas of radiation physics and oncology. He has nearly 500 publications including over 420 in peer-reviewed journals. He was the Senior Physics Editor of The International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, and Physics from 2002 through 2011. Since 2005, his activities have been concentrated on various physical, clinical and biological aspects of proton therapy. Dr. Mohan has been the Co-Principal Investigator three 5-year National Cancer Institute’s Program Project grants on proton therapy. In addition, Dr. Mohan has been awarded numerous research grants by the NCI and industry. More recently, his research has been concentrated on immunomodulatory and immuno-stimulatory differences between protons photons, the potential of particle therapy in combination with immunotherapy and FLASH.
