About Dr. Akwasi Opoku
Dr. Akwasi Opoku is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Breast Imaging within the Division of Diagnostic Imaging at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He then completed fellowship training in Breast Imaging at MD Anderson Cancer Center before joining the faculty in 2026.
Dr. Opoku is a board-certified radiologist with expertise in comprehensive breast imaging, including mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography, and image-guided breast procedures. His academic interests include breast cancer screening, quality improvement, artificial intelligence, and breast imaging education. He is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care while advancing innovation, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
