      About Dr. Chelain R. Goodman

Chelain R. Goodman, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Breast Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and a member of the Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Program. She specializes in radiotherapy for early-stage and locally advanced breast cancer, with a focus on patients with inflammatory breast cancer and oligometastatic disease. Dr. Goodman has been recognized as an Andrew Sabin Family Fellow (2026), a Paul Calabresi Clinical Scholar (NCI K12 Clinical Scientist Institutional Career Development Award; 2023-2025), a Breast Cancer Research Foundation Investigator (2022-2023, 2026), and the recipient of the "Under 40" Award for Early Career Breast Oncologists by the European Society for Radiation Oncology (2023). Most recently, she was awarded the Conquer Cancer Foundation Advanced Clinical Research Award for Breast Cancer by the American Society for Clinical Oncology (2026-2029).

Dr. Goodman's research program aims to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of breast cancer by integrating innovative imaging and biologic biomarkers with deep learning–based clinical decision-making tools. She is the principal investigator of the PRISM trial, a prospective study evaluating circulating tumor material dynamics to further personalize breast radiotherapy. She also leads the upcoming CLARITy trial, a prospective randomized trial evaluating the benefit of metastasis-directed radiotherapy for patients with oligometastatic breast cancer with no detectable circulating tumor material following upfront subtype-specific systemic therapy. As an Andrew Sabin Family Fellow, her work integrates multimodal imaging biomarkers with deep learning to improve diagnostic precision and early response prediction in inflammatory breast cancer.

In addition to her research and clinical practice, Dr. Goodman is the Department of Breast Radiation Oncology Medical Student Site Director and is dedicated to graduate medical education and to developing consensus-based educational materials to support patients throughout treatment. She is an Associate Editor for the Breast Section of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology * Biology * Physics and serves on committees for numerous specialty-specific societies and cooperative groups, including the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and NRG Oncology.
