Meet Elizabeth Bloom, M.D.
Elizabeth S. Bloom, M.D.
Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Radiation Oncology
About Dr. Bloom
Dr. Bloom serves in the role of Faculty Co-Director, MD Anderson Leadership Institute (LI). Her responsibilities include increasing faculty awareness and participation in LI programs and initiatives for the benefit of the individual faculty and the institution. In addition, she is involved in the talent review process of direct reports of faculty leaders, as well as the Mentoring Engagement Circles and Collaboration Circles programs. She is currently enrolled in the CoachRICE Leadership Coaching Program. Dr. Bloom obtained her undergraduate and medical degrees at Northwestern University through the Honors Program in Medical Education. She subsequently completed her residency training in Radiation Oncology (RO) at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1995, for which she also served in the role of Chief Resident. After completing her United States Air Force scholarship commitment, she returned to MD Anderson to open their first radiation oncology satellite in Bellaire. Dr. Bloom is now a full Professor in Breast Radiation Oncology. She has served in several leadership positions at MD Anderson throughout her career that mirror the expansion of MD Anderson into multiple campuses across Houston extending its REACH to patients. Her roles have included Chair, MDACC Alumni & Faculty Assoc Steering Committee, Section Chief, Houston Area Locations (HALS), RO Center Medical Director, Katy + Memorial City, Deputy Division Head, Clinical Integration, RO. Since her first immersive leadership program offered by the MD Anderson LI, "LEADing Teams Core", and subsequent completion of the program "Developing Trusted Leaders", Intermountain Healthcare LI, in 2019, Dr. Bloom knew she wanted to be more involved in the MD Anderson LI, if the opportunity arose. She is convinced of the beneficial impact of leadership education on healthcare at both a systems level and individual patient-care level. As Dr. Bloom notes, leadership training also has a wonderfully positive impact on the well-being of its' students when the teachings are put into practice. Dr. Bloom is board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology and sub specializes in the treatment of breast cancer. Her research interests include partial breast irradiation for early-stage breast cancer and advanced radiation treatment planning for all stages of breast cancer to minimize potential long-term effects of treatment.
