About Dr. Jeanne M. Meis

Dr. Jeanne M. Meis is a Professor of Pathology and the Section Head of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, USA. She has over 30 years of experience in bone and soft tissue pathology and is internationally recognized as an expert diagnostician and for research contributions to sarcoma pathology diagnosis and treatment. She has previously been the Chair of the Department of Soft Tissue Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC, USA; Professor of Pathology at Gothenburg University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden; and Professor of Pathology at The Medical School, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom as well as a Consultant Histopathologist at the Royal Orthopaedic Hosptial NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. She is a member of prestigious societies including the Arthur Purdy Stout Society and the International Skeletal Society. She has nearly 200 publications including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts. Some of her most notable contributions have been the description or delineation of new or under-recognized entities such as chondroid lipoma, juxta-articular myxoma, proliferative fasciitis and myositis of childhood, inflammatory fibrosarcoma (distinguishing it from inflammatory pseudotumor), sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma, cellular variant of fetal rhabdomyoma, epithelioid schwannoma, (acral) myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma, initial expression of cKIT / CD117 in gastrointestinal stromal tumors, synovial sarcoma of peripheral nerves, and the description of new translocations in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma. She has given numerous courses and presentations at international, national and local venues.
