About Dr. Ahrar
Dr. Kamran Ahrar is a tenured Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His primary appointment is with the Department of Interventional Radiology. His secondary appointment is with the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. Ahrar received his Doctorate in Medicine from the Keck Scholl of Medicine of the University of Southern California in 1993. He received his Masters of Business Administration with Healthcare Specialization from the Jones Graduate School of Business, Rice University in 2015. Since joining the faculty at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1999, Dr. Ahrar has served in many leadership positions including the Director of Quality Assurance for IR 1999-2002, Director of Research 2001-2003, Clinical Medical Director 2007-2015, and as the Chair of Quality Assurance 2012-2015. At present, he leads the efforts for expansion of IR services outside of Texas Medical Center. Dr. Ahrar was elected a fellow in the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and served on the Board of Directors for SIR Foundation as the Chair of the Clinical Trial Division 2012-2015.

Research Interests
Dr. Ahrar has maintained an active role in research throughout his tenure at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Initially, he focused on translational research in preclinical setting, developing large animal tumor models to test the safety and feasibility of image-guided ablation technologies including radiofrequency and laser ablation. He was instrumental in developing and conducting several multi-institutional clinical trials for image-guided ablation of bone, kidney, lung, and liver tumors. He continues his efforts in collecting data for minimally invasive management of renal tumors with image-guided thermal ablation
