About Dr. Sajid A Haque
The goal of the proposed research is to implement a quality initiative bundle to prevent catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) in intensive care unit (ICU) patients by using Provodine during urinary catheter care. Our aim is to decrease baseline CAUTI rates by 50%. I have the knowledge and drive to be a collaborating physician on this project. I am board certified in critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine, sleep medicine, and internal medicine. I am also co-chair of the quality and safety committee for the 53 bed intensive care unit at our institution. My work has focused on quality improvement, particularly as it relates to some of the issues that are particularly prevalent in our patient population. These include the incidence of thromboembolic disease and procedural complications in the setting of thrombocytopenia, as well as diffuse alveolar hemorrhage. Quality efforts have been aimed at defining at risk populations for thromboemboli and improving prophylactic awareness and compliance. Additional quality improvement measures have also related specifically to urinary tract infections, and these include the addition of regular chlorhexidine bathing for patients, check list implementation during medical rounds to avoid excessive Foley catheter days, and recurrent nurse education on Foley catheter care. I have demonstrated an existing interest in decreasing the incidence of CAUTIs in the ICU and have demonstrated an ability to work with multidisciplinary groups and coordinate the effective administration of a project across different groups. The current project is a natural next step in the process of decreasing urinary tract infections in the intensive care unit, and my experience and expertise have given me a strong background to be an effective collaborator in this endeavor.
