About Dr. Takeshi Yokoo
Dr. Takeshi Yokoo was as Professor of Radiology and served as the Medical Director of MRI at UT Southwestern Medical Center prior to joining The University of Texas MD Anderson. His clinical interests include imaging of diffuse liver disease, liver cancer, and quantitative imaging biomarkers.
Dr. Yokoo holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He earned his doctorate in biomathematics and his medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He then completed his residency in diagnostic radiology on a five-year research track at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center before obtaining advanced training in abdominal imaging and intervention through a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Yokoo focuses on researching quantitative and computational imaging techniques to support radiologists in objective and standardized image interpretation and reporting. He has collaborated with MRI manufacturers to develop pulse sequences that are now available for routine clinical use. Through his extensive work in technological advancement, along with his research on topics such as diffuse liver disease and liver cancer, Dr. Yokoo has authored or co-authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Yokoo is an active member of several national and international professional societies, such as American College of Radiology, International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, Society of Advanced Body Imaging and Society of Abdominal Radiology, serving on various committees including Liver Imaging Reporting and Data Systems (LI-RADS). He is an active reviewer for the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Magnetic Resonance in Medicine; for the latter, he has been recognized as a distinguished reviewer five times. In addition, he has served as an ad hoc reviewer on a range of publications such as Abdominal Imaging, Journal of Hepatology, and European Radiology. He also served as a guest editor for a special issues of BioMed Research International focused on "Advances in MR Imaging Techniques and Applications” and Magnetic Resonance Materials in Physics, Biology, and Medicine focused on “Quantitative Body Magnetic Resonance Imaging."
